The difference between an OTP and a 'Ship'

*THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS*
If you're an avid TV show watcher, book reader, general internet user then you most likely have OTPs, which stands for 'one true pairing'. While scrolling through tumblr last week and seeing gifs of Castle and Beckett it hit me that there is a difference between OTPs and ship, so i decided to do a little research. 

The definition of 'OTP' (according to urban dictionary) is: One True Pairing. Meaning the your favorite combination of characters in a fandom.

Some examples being; 

Delena- Damon and Elena

                                                                    and 

Olicity- Oliver and Felicity

Now here's the thing you can have multiple OTPs, and most people have over 10 (including myself) because they either see that the characters make each other better people or see something they want in a relationship themselves. This is where having a 'ship' is different. 

The definition of a 'ship' is: One particular fictional couple that are above the rest and that you will support until the book/show ends

In my case this would be 

Caskett-Castle and Beckett

In my mind they don't compare to my OTP's, they are prioritized more in my mind and i feel a lot more invested in that fictional relationship then any others, and THAT is the difference between an OTP and a Ship. You have that one couple you'd sacrifice all your OTPs for. 

However, let us not get confused about the term 'shipping' which i wanting 2 characters to be in a romantic relationship as it refers to both OTPs and Ships.
